Social Media and Employee Recognition
Most people acknowledge the benefit of internal social networks as a tool for building relationships across a company, promoting new products and events and increasing brand awareness, however one area where the potential of social media is often overlooked is employee recognition.
The company blog, internal Facebook pages and Twitter are all excellent vehicles for verbalizing appreciation for employees; writing comments about what they have achieved and the contributions that they have made towards the company. This allows managers to deliver a personal and individualized message.
Programs such as Rypple and Kudos Now make online employee recognition even easier, acting as a platform to showcase an employee’s good work. Recognition remains visible on an employee’s profile enabling others to see their value. Custom badges and virtual gifts from sites such as VirtualGifts4u are also a great way to give real-time recognition for an employee’s successes.
Social intranets avoid many of the privacy concerns that open social networks bring and are therefore a good place to discuss and celebrate employee’s work.
